With NaNoWriMo just a week away, this will probably be the last (only?) commentable entry until December.
Once again:
My character is a Mary Sue (though in this case, I don't think it's as bad. The world prefers Over The Top characters) My Plot is Cliched (Or semi-ripped off from Memoirs of a Geisha, though I actually had some of the basics worked out well before I ever read Memoirs) I abuse the English Language horribly, especially spelling.
Editing is for December!
Plot outline is not going to be published this time, as I don't especially have one. It's also totally non publishable (unless White Wolf wants it) because it's technically "Fan fiction" (well, I call it "GameFic" for fiction set in RPG worlds). It's an extended, expanded and re-written character background for my Exalted Character done as a Memoir written to remind her that once she was a mere mortal, and maybe identify what parts of that Mere Mortal were why the Unconquered Sun chose her for Exaltation.
In one week, I begin writing "Sun in Sapphire" |

In addition to serving as a "first page" for my novel for those who choose to read it (and want to bookmark it), I'm going to use this page to make a few statements (mostly to remind myself) 1) I'm not trying to write the next great Fantasy Novel. That's not what NaNoWriMo is for. I'm writing a basic, generic, Typical Tolkein-rip-off fantasy novel because the object of NaNoWriMo is to get a novel written, not to write a good one. If I succeed this year, I'll try to be original next year. 2) My characters are Mary-Sues and Gary-Stus, the lot of them, if you go by the various litmus tests. I'm hoping that actual writing aleviates this, but if not... see note one. At least two of the characters are practically intended to be Mary Sues. 3) My planned novel nearly "fails" two "tests" on if it even should be fantasy. That's because it's Cliche Ridden. I know this. I don't particularly care. See Note One. 4) My spelling sucks. Has for a long time, and I'd be even worse if not for automatic spell checks. Editing is for December. 5) I abuse the English language and do things with it that would make Grammar purists faint. Sometimes this is even intentional. Editing is for December. With this, I hope to have successfuly silenced my internal editior enough that it won't get in the way for NaNoWriMo x-posted to my regular journal.

Okay, so I'm going to try to do NaNo this year. I came up with the idea that I would try this week to see if I could write 3000 in 3 hours, since that's how long Katie's at school. Of course, I forgot to allow for holidays and such, and if I want to be done by Thanksgiving weekend, I need to top that, slightly (3125 per day) so I'm probably going to need a second writing session some evenings. Still, I managed my 3000 in two hours. I'm going to try to keep it up for the rest of the week, by writing some of the background and maybe some vingettes and such, as opposed to a constant story. But Day one has been successful. Just over 3000 words in just under 2 hours. In the Spirit of NaNo, this has hardly been edited since I declared myself done for the day. ( Day One: Backstory to the whole shebang, in vaguely Myth/Bible sort of style )Tomorrow, I'll write in more of a novel style.

I am trying to emulate the Bible here. That is, more or less my inspiration. Names have been changed, and the whole story is in place, at least as it would be related in a holy text... or maybe history book. ( In the beginning )

Or the Creation Story, as told by the Elves who have the least number of Generations between the creation of the world and the "Present day" of the world. Please note that certain terms are going to change, once I have a language worked out. These terms are... Anima, Angels, Dragons, Dwarves, Goblins, Humans, Mistress of Night, Maiden of Light , Creator, and Gray Lady. Right now, they're simply placeholders to remind me of the basic concept of who the players are. Another warning, this is seriously long... ( Genesis, Chapter 1 ) Thoughts appreciated, from the like 2 people who read this. ;-) |

Cough cough, hack. Sorry about that. Getting the writing urge again (finally). Part of it is Gen Con writing, so that won't be showing up here or at dawaterrat, since I know some people who read my journals also attend my Gen-Con games. But I've also gone back to work on my fantasy world, and I think I'm finally really happy with the core mythology... though it's not really a mythology, since it's the "truth". Did I mention I'm a complete nut when it comes to writing for my own worlds? I think this is the reason I like Tolkien and JKR so much. Their worlds are really complete, really detailed, even if half the stuff, or more, never actually shows up in the story. So, I'm starting with the core mythology, and then I'll have it available to re-write from the point of view of the various cultures as I develop them. More later.
